Blog Session 4 (week 6) >> Bad habits and dental health







SUGAR


The sugar is one of the most addictive food´s components. It´s a really dangerous vice and people don´t care about it. The majority of sweet food contains sugar, even though there are different types of sweeteners without it. 

Within the most important problems that cause the high sugar intake are weight gain and the dental issues. The last refers about the dental health loss and we can notice it because food´s sugar can cleave to ours teeth.  After the join sugar-tooth, the mouth pathogenic microorganisms eat of this sugar, releasing acids and causing the typical dental issue, named it caries.

Caries or tooth decay is a disease of infectious origin and it´s one of the majority prevalent in the human. This issue consist in the modification or change of hard tissue of the tooth and it´s going to be dissolved. Exist a process of localized destruction of that hard tissue because the action of involved bacterias.

The formation´s process of carious cavities begins in form of small areas of demineralization in subsurface enamel and then it progress between dentine to the dental pulp. If the injury is not remineralised, it can continue and turn in a cavitation.

Actually we know that the diet has an important role in the caries dental development. It´s because there are several characteristics of the food that can influence the cariogenic potential of these, for example sucrose concentration, consistency, oral rinse, food combining, sequence and frequency of ingestion and food´s pH.

Within the favorite cariogenic food are candies, chocolates, refreshments, cookies, french fries,  icecreams, etc.

But caries, is not the only issue. Also the high sugar intake can cause the prevalent of gingivitis and increased frequency of malocclusions.


Even though you had have caries or another dental issues, you can repair in part the damage. For this, is important go to a dentist maybe for a obturation root canal treatment and after it, change all your bad habits like improve feed. 

Finally I wanna tell you that i love eat all the cariogenic "food" named previously, actually is my weakness. I love chocolates, icecreams and coffee, but I am conscious that is a bad habit and is bad for me. So I am trying to control me and really hope you do the same!!! XOXO
